Jack Richards Handicap Chase
Jordan’s Cross has improved 20lbs for a fence and he could still be progressive yet. He could easily be four from four over the bigger obstacles had he not come down at the last when mounting a challenge at the November meeting at Cheltenham. That fall aside, he has a perfect record since sent chasing and one of his three successes came at Cheltenham on trials day when he was extremely game to fend off the challenge from the Paul Nicholls runner, Quebecois.
He has the course form, is still progressive, and I think a big player in this and that combination makes him a good first leg of this multi.
Selection: Jordan’s Cross @ 10/1
Stayers Hurdle
My original selection has been scratched so going for Ballyburn for the Stayers.(next best)
Selection: Ballyburn 13/2
The Pertemps Final
Emma Lavelle is becoming somewhat a bit of a specialist with these staying handicap hurdlers. Paisley Park most notably and of course Ma Shantou has progressed all season and will have already run in The Stayers by this point. She has another in this field at a big price and some of the course form over the intermediate trip at Cheltenham in October is very eye catching.
Classic King was 4th behind French Ship who was the winner on that day and is now 18lbs higher in the handicap. The second was Navajo Indy who has sadly been retired. The 3rd was Bowensonfire who is well fancied in the County and has gone up 17lbs in the handicap and Classic King had to give 7lbs and 4lbs to those pair on that day. He will enjoy the better ground conditions and will come in here primed for the race.
Selection: Classic King @ 25/1
Kim Muir
Monbeg Genius is on a competitive mark again and has run some very credible efforts off higher marks in recent starts. He was 6th of 19 in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown before running well in The Welsh National where he was 5th behind Haiti Couleurs who nobody could match on that day.
He has some impeccable Cheltenham form from a few years ago when getting his ground (which he will again here) when finishing a close third behind Corach Rambler, a dual Ultima and Grand National winner and Fastorslow who proved to be a grade one horse. He is now a 10-year-old but if putting his best foot forward he can definitely run well in this.
Selection: Monbeg Genius @ 25/1
