The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle is a searching test of stamina on the final afternoon of the Cheltenham Festival.
Run over three miles on the New Course, the race demands resilience as well as class, with 12 hurdles to be cleared in what is often a gruelling contest. Despite being one of the newer additions to the Festival programme, it has produced notable winners including future Gold Cup champions Bobs Worth and Minella Indo.
Jasmin De Vaux powered to victory in last season’s renewal, continuing a strong recent record for Irish-trained runners in the race.
Willie Mullins appears to hold a leading hand again, with Doctor Steinberg heading the betting.
He impressed in the Grade 2 Navan Novice Hurdle before adding a Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival. His Navan success came at the expense of Thedeviluno, who has since strengthened his credentials with a clear-cut win in the River Don Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster and sits next in the non-runner no bet market.
