Turners Novice Hurdle

The Wednesday is going all be about punchy prices and we start in the same way we did on Tuesday with a Skelton runner who I think is overlooked in this race. Bossman Jack is a nice double figure price and like many of the younger horses from the Alcester yard, he’s continue to improve run to run throughout the season.

A winner on his last two starts and one who we clearly do not know where the ceiling of his ability lies and a runner who clearly has an engine. He’s got some decent form in the book and there’s plenty of scope for further improvement and one thing is for sure, he will be staying on up the hill, it’s just whether or not he has the class to get his head in front in what is sure to be a competitive field.

Selection: Bossman Jack @ 25/1

Brown Advisory Novice Chase

I did say we were looking at punchy prices and it doesn’t get more punchy than Thomas Mor in this novice chase event. He is a very lightly raced 9YO who has competed under rules on 10 occasions and has been victorious on 50% of those starts. The drier the ground, the better his chance having won all his previous races with good in the going description. He is rated the same as the likes of Salver & Wendigo who are much shorter than him in the betting and he’s already finished ahead of the latter of the two in the Kauto Star Novice Chase.

He was just a couple of lengths off Kitzbuhel on that day who was primed for the race. Thomas Mor also brings course form into the race having finished 5th in an Albert Bartlett and the form of that race is starting to look better by the year. He is overpriced based on his win percentage, the fact he’s acted at the track before, and on official ratings. There’s nothing not to like, especially at his price.

Selection: Thomas Mor @ 33/1

The BETMGM Cup

Nicky Henderson has won this in 2010, 2014, 2019 & 2020 and I very much like the chances of Jingko Blue in this year’s renewal. He was sent chasing last season and achieved an official rating of 151 before the larger obstacles were abandoned. He’s reverted back to hurdles this season and his latest start was an eye catching performance behind Kabral Du Mathan who now looks likely to line up in The Stayers Hurdle. He travelled well through that race and travelled powerfully throughout but ultimately was no match for the very progressive Skelton horse.

He can show a lack of respect to his hurdles and has a tendency to get into the bottom of one or two of them which wouldn’t be ideal however I think there’s a huge engine in this horse and given the fact that he’s got half a stone on his chase mark, I think he can get very competitive in this and he makes up the third leg of this bet.

Selection: Jingko Blue @ 14/1

Grand Annual

Everything is against Jazzy Matty in terms of history and trends. The Johnny Henderson Grand Annual dates back to 1946 and over the course of the last 70 years, just one horse has managed to go back to back in this 2m handicap chase.

In more recent history it has proven to be a race where the winner does return the following year but the statistics are certainly against Jazzy Matty. Over the last 12 renewals the current winner has returned on 10 occasions. None have gone on to win and only two placing with Unexpected Party going closest last year as the runner-up.

However, Jazzy Matty is still only a 7-year-old and could be one with some improvement left in him. He has only been given an 8lbs rise for his success here in 2025 but he’s going to get conditions to his liking and that hike in the weight’s may not be enough to stop him from going back to back.

Selection: Jazzy Matty @ 12/1
