Bob Olinger turned back the clock to land last season’s Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle, securing a third Cheltenham Festival victory for Henry de Bromhead.
He outstayed defending champion Teahupoo and asserted at the final flight to reclaim top honours in the staying hurdle division.
The landscape of the three mile hurdling ranks could look different this time around. Several novices from last season are stepping into open company, bringing fresh depth to the field. Among them are JP McManus-owned runners Honesty Policy and Impose Toi, both expected to play a role during the campaign.
The Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle is staged over three miles on the New Course at Cheltenham. Contestants must clear 12 hurdles and combine stamina with sound jumping to prevail in one of the Festival’s most demanding events.
Teahupoo heads the early betting following wins in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle and the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown. Stablemate Honesty Policy is also near the top of the market after finishing strongly for third in the Long Walk Hurdle.
Bob Olinger remains prominent in the non-runner no bet lists as he attempts to defend his crown for de Bromhead and add another chapter to his Festival record.
