Ruby Walsh told Paddy Power that he believes Narciso Has is the standout contender for the Triumph Hurdle, though he has also highlighted One Horse Town as an interesting option at bigger odds.

Speaking about Narciso Has, Walsh said he has been impressed by everything the short-priced favourite has produced this season. He noted the colt’s improvement from his Fairyhouse run behind Mange Tout, followed by strong performances at Christmas and the Dublin Racing Festival.

Walsh feels the Cheltenham track will suit Narciso Has perfectly, particularly his ability to travel smoothly before quickening from the second last. He described him as a strong stayer with a calm mindset and a fluent jumping technique. In his view, the market leader is ticking every box and will be difficult to beat if producing his best.

Among the opposition, Selma De Vary caught Walsh’s eye after showing promise both at Auteuil and at Leopardstown, where a sharp leap at the second last brought her into contention. He believes she has considerable potential, though adapting to a new training regime under Willie Mullins may require time.

Walsh also referenced Project as a filly with long-term prospects, possibly as a future Mares’ Hurdle contender, but suggested she may lack the typical profile of a Triumph winner at this stage. Charme De Faust, owned by Rich Ricci, would need to find further improvement, while Proactif and Macho Man have progressed since Fairyhouse but still appear slightly behind the favourite.

Another Mullins runner, Minella Academy, has shown ability after a win at Cork but would need to step forward again to feature prominently.

For Walsh, Narciso Has remains the clear number one selection, a horse who consistently gives the impression there is more to come. For those seeking value, he suggested One Horse Town, trained by Harry Derham, as an each-way alternative who could outrun his odds in the non runner money back market.
